California Bay Laurel Measuring the Bay TreeYou can measure the bay tree by footsteps. First, you make a point, then you measure your footstep. Next you count how many steps it takes to get around the tree. After you go around, you multiply how many steps by how long your footstep is. That should tell you how big around the tree trunk is. When I did it, I got 35 feet. It took me 50 steps to get around the tree trunk. My foot is 9 inches long. I multiplied 9 inches by 50 steps. Then I divided by 12 and came up with 35 feet around the tree trunk. That is how you can measure the bay tree by footsteps. - Devon Heston The bay tree can be measured in many different ways, like using a protractor. First you take a protractor and put a straw on the side of it. Next you tie a string through the hole at the bottom of the protractor, then tie a paper clip to the other end of the rope. Peek through the straw until you see the top of the tree. The string should be on a 45 degree angle while you are looking at the top of the tree. Finally, measure from the ground to your eyes and then from your feet to the tree. Add both answers and it will tell you how tall the bay tree is. - Alfred Wallace You can measure
the bay tree in many different ways. I'm going to tell you about
one, using a clinometer. You need a straw, protractor, tape, string,
paper clip, yardstick and a partner. You tie the string to the protractor,
then you tie the string to the paper clip. After you do that, you
tape the straw to the protractor, Then you put a piece of tape to
mark 45 Do you know how many kids it takes to go around the bay tree? It took 15 kids to go around the tree. If all the kids had a 3 foot wing span, the tree would be 45 feet around. If all the kids have a 4 foot wing span, the tree would be 60 feet around. If all the kids have a 3 1/2 wing span, the tree would be 52.5 feet around. To find the answers I used a calculator to multiply. I wonder how many adults it would take to go around the tree? - Dylan Snyder On to # 5 - The Creek |
