Coffeeberry

'Buckthorn'

CoffeeberryCoffeeberry grows into a large shrub.

The bark, which can be boiled into a tea to remedy constipation, has to be stored for a whole year before it can be used. The berries of this shrub have no caffeine in them. A half-handful of fresh berries can also be eaten as a laxative.

The flowers develop into berries that change from red to black as they mature.

Coffeeberries are evergreen shrub. They are native along the Oregon Coast ranges though most of California into Arizona and Baja. Ripe coffeeberries are black.
