Native American Garden Plants

Nasturtium

Tropaeolum majus

Nasturtium

Nasturtium originated in the New World where they were called "Indian Cress" because of the tartness of their leaves. Sailors ate the pickled seeds as a remedy against scurvy. They are a valuable source of vitamin C, iron and sulphur.
