Teaching Tips

The purpose of this project is to plant flowers that were used by the Native American Indians and Early Settlers.

Select one plant from the plant list and buy up to five at the most (unless it is a big shrub then possibly only two will be needed.)
Divide the class into the same number of groups.

Ask the students to draw the whole or part of the plant and then research the plant's uses from the books provided. They should write a short paragraph below their drawing.

Take small groups out to plant their plant while the rest of the class is researching.

At the end of the class collect all the work and keep it in a file or binder.
