Introduction to Ms. Rechtfertig

My name is Ms. Mary Ann Rechtfertig (pronounced "rec'-fur-tig.) I was born and raised in Marin, and attended Brookside School, Drake High School, and U.C. Berkeley. I spent eighteen years working for the Fairfield-Suisun Unified School District, and have taught at Dixie School since 1991. During my teaching career, I've taught second, third, fourth, and fifth grades. Earlier in my career I also worked in the business community, designing and implementing professional development programs. For two years, I worked for the Berkeley Unified School District helping teachers learn to integrate technology tools with instruction. I've lived in Marin most of my life, and a few years ago, I purchased a home in Novato. Since then I've been having fun decorating and working in my garden. I'm loving the abundance of wildlife, beautiful surrounding hills, and friendly neighborhood.

Here is some information about my professional philosophy. First and foremost, my goal is for children to love learning. Each day I work to be creative and to enliven all school subjects so they are interesting and engaging for each student. I incorporate many strategies and approaches to reach every student, so s/he develops skills, confidence, and a sense of responsibility. I am widely experienced and enjoy meeting the needs of a diverse community of learners. I run an orderly and disciplined classroom, but I maintain a comfortable and relaxed atmosphere in which open communication is encouraged, children are active, and we all have fun.

I welcome and value parent volunteers both in the classroom and at home. I am a firm believer in open and timely communication with parents. After all, we are partners in serving the best interests of children. If something comes up in class that I think will be of concern to you, I will let you know.
