The homes of the Yokuts are interesting. The Yokuts live in permanent homes most of the year. They leave only to gather food. Their houses are of several types. Families’ houses are shaped oval. The southern valley tribes also built longer houses for many families.

The Yokuts made rafts that could hold six people. The rafts were made of tule reeds. The way that the raft could move was that the person that powered it put a pole in the ground, and pulled the boat.

The clothing of the Yokuts is very cool. The Yokut women wore a skirt of two pieces of narrow fringed part in front and a longer piece in the back. The clothing was made from grass and rabbit skins. Men wore a piece of deer skin around their hips and when it was winter, they would make robes out of rabbit skin.

of deerskin around their waist, or otherwise wore nothing?
Sometimes it's really warm, and sometimes it's really cold, and
when it's cold, they would catch rabbits and mud hens and
make robes. The women wore a skirt made of two pieces, a
narrow, skinny, fringed part in the front, and a larger part in the back. The skirts were made out of tule reeds, marsh grass, or rabbit skins. Didn't the Yokuts have nice clothes?

Did you know that the Yokuts spent most of their time
making tools and weapons? They had to use most of their
time making tools and weapons because the tools and
weapons had to be made out of strong material. The Yokuts
usually made the tools and weapons from tule reeds that
were needed by their tribe members. One of their tools
were baskets. To us it didn't look like a tool. They used
twining and coiling methods to make baskets. They have
very good talents at making tools and weapons!

Did you know that the Southern Valley tribes could make
houses that could fit more than ten families? That's
incredible! Every family who lived in a big house had a
fireplace and a door, but no wall split one group from
another. They mostly use tule reeds to make their house.
The roof in the big houses were very steep and dangerous.
They sure knew how to make big houses back then.

Do you know how the Yokuts got food and water?  They
had a closeby lake to get water from.  When they killed an animal, they would eat the meat and use the skin for
clothing.  With birds, they would use the feathers as
decorations.  They weren't allowed to kill eagles or coyotes. They were the tribe mascot.  That's how they got food and water.

The Yokuts had a very captivating line of tools and weapons. They made a lot of tools and weapons out of tule reeds. They could make baskets, cradles, and mats by coiling and twining tule reeds together. The Yokuts also made knives arrowheads with obsidian. The Yokut's tools and weapons were very essential to them.

The Yokut men and women wore different kinds of
clothes. The women wore a skirt that had a piece of either
grasses or skins in the front and back. Men wore deerskin around their hips. Or else, they wore nothing. When it was cold, they would wear thick robes to keep them warm. The Yokut men and women wore interesting clothes.
