Milk Program
One half-pint of low-fat milk is available daily to students in K-5th grades, on a yearly or half-yearly basis, paid in advance. Notification of the program and the cost is sent home at the beginning of each semester. Milk may not be purchased on a daily basis except at the Dixie Diner.

Student Insurance
Student accident and dental insurance is available and information is sent home only at the start of the school year. Participation is optional. Accident report forms are available in the school office.

Bus Service
The Dixie School District Transportation Department provides bus transportation for a fee to students who live outside the walking distance as defined by the School Board Policy:
K-5 - 1 mi. or more from school
6-8 - 2 1/2 mi. or more from school

In order to receive your child's bus pass prior to the first day of school applications must be mailed to:

Dixie School District: Transportation Dept., 380 Nova Albion Way, San Rafael, CA 94903

Booklets of single ride tickets can be purchased in the Dixie School Office. For information call the Transportation Dispatcher and Supervisor at 492-3777.

School Nurse
The Dixie School District Health Nurse's services include state mandated vision and hearing screenings and immunization review; and School Entry Physical CHPD Exam review, as required by the California Education Code. Also, parents may check out videos about common health conditions affecting children, available through the school nurse. The Nurse can be contacted through the school office or her voice mail at 492-3718.

Home Schooling Teacher
When a student, due to prolonged illness or injury, must be out of school for at least two weeks, the District employs a home teacher. Contact the school office if your child is unable to attend school for an extended period of time.

Language, Speech and Hearing Specialist
This program is run with close cooperation of each school principal. Ordinarily students are referred to the therapist by teachers; however, parents may initiate therapy screening for a student by contacting the school.

Psychologist
The School Psychologist is contracted from the Marin County Office of Education and is available for parent consultation concerning educational, social, and emotional needs. You may contact her through the school office or her office at 492-3705.

New Perspectives
This is a non-profit agency in Larkspur, which contracts with Dixie School District to provide counseling services to students and their families.

D.A.R.E.
Drug Abuse Resistance Education is a collaborative effort by certified law enforcement officers, educators, students, parents and the community offering an in-classroom program to prevent drug abuse and violence.

The emphasis is to help students recognize and resist the many direct and subtle pressures that may influence them to experiment with alcohol, tobacco or other drugs. The Deputy Sheriff of the Marin Co. Sheriff's Dept. teaches the class to the 5th grades.
