Guidelines
for Classroom Celebrations
These guidelines are
to assist in having consistency in classroom celebrations throughout
Dixie School.
1.
Classroom celebrations are not a competitive sport!
2.
The teacher has the final word on when they want parties, what activities
are planned, etc. Teachers
will meet at grade level to discuss each celebration and will then coordinate
with room parents on food and activities/crafts.
3.
Each celebration (i.e. Halloween, Thanksgiving, Winter
Holiday, Valentine¹s Day) should have no more than 2 food items and
a drink, (following the district nutritional guidelines) and should
last about 30-45 minutes. Please make sure all parents in the class
have an opportunity to participate in one of the celebrations throughout
the school year.
4.
Successful parties have many parents helping out –
other parents should be solicited to donate paper goods, drinks, food,
a craft project, loan a music cd or tape, etc. The room parents should not have to do or pay for everything!
There should not be any money collected – food, drinks
and craft materials are donated by families in the classroom.
Attached is a template to help recruit parents.
5.
Discuss with the teacher what he/she would like or expect
at the party. Fun classroom
parties are not elaborate or expensive – kids love to play games,
dance to music, do a craft project or two, sing, etc. There are many excellent websites with creative, low budget
activities for a classroom party.
Simple art supplies are generally available through the classroom
teacher.

Please no goodie bags and/or party favors.
