As the first day
of school approaches, we are starting to plan many of the programs
and activities sponsored by the DHSC. One of the things
that makes Dixie so special is the thousands of volunteer
hours contributed by parents, grandparents, and community members each
year. Please take
a few minutes and check the areas where you would like
to volunteer your time. You will be contacted by the committee chair
about your volunteer
assignment. Note: Classroom volunteers are organized
by individual teachers.
ON-GOING ACTIVITIES
____ Art
Assistants
Assist art teachers during art classes or with on-going
projects at home. No artistic abilities required.
____ Arts Council
Help with art events throughout the year; Celebrate
the Arts, Musical and Theatrical Performances, Open House Art Show
and Dixie Doodle.
____ Box Tops for
Education
Promote the box tops program and get cash for our school (great job for a working
parent).
____ Enrichment Fund
Classroom representatives needed to help promote annual
fall fundraising drive.
____ Dixie Diner
Help with lunch service between 11 am and 12:30 p.m.
Shifts available Monday through Friday.
____ Dixie Wear
Place the orders and organize the sale of Dixie Clothing
at the school.
____ Lunch Supervision
Supervise children during lunch between 11:50 and 12:40.
Shifts available Monday through Friday.
____ Emergency Preparedness
Help organize emergency supplies and emergency drills.
____ Health
Help school nurse with periodic vision, hearing and lice checks.
____ Odyssey of
the Mind
Coach 5 to 7 children once a week to enhance problem
solving skills and nurture creativity.
Regional competitions are held in March.
____ Outdoor Mentors/Assistants
to Garden Coordinator
Assist students in learning about the environment and
working in the school gardens.
____ Paw Prints Newsletter
Team
Become and editor, an assistant editor, photographer
or contributor to our School Newsletter.
____ Traffic Loop
Help coordinate classroom volunteers for the drop
off/pick-up loop.
____ Year Book
Assist editor by taking photos and assembling pages to create the annual yearbook.
SHORT TERM /ONE TIME ACTIVITIES
____ Gift Wrap – Mid-September
to Mid-October
Help with tallying orders and order distribution.
____ Bike Safety – September
29th
Help monitor courses and help with bicycle safety checks
(hosted by Safe Routes to School).
____ Book Fair – October
6th to 13th
Help set and take down book fair. Assist children with
choosing books. Ring up orders.
____ Picture Day – October 19th & 20th
Walk students to and from classrooms.
____ Multi-Cultural
Day - January 19th
Help in planning and organizing events
on this great day.
____ Walk-A-Thon – May
20th
Help plan the event and/or participate in set-up and
take-down. Monitor course, register participants, sell food, have fun.
____ Sports Day – June
8th
Help monitor relay races, mile races and games.
