Gifted and Talented Education is an instructional program supported by the California Department of Education (CDE) and designed and implemented by the Dixie School District (DSD) . The Program is structured to meet the educational needs of identified or potentially gifted children.

Purpose

The purpose of the Dixie District’s GATE program is to assure that GATE students progress through their grade level curriculum and experience differentiated instruction with depth and complexity.

What is G.A.T.E.?

  • G.A.T.E. is a special-needs educational program.
  • G.A.T.E. was originally developed to serve students with special needs in the areas of abstract reasoning, quantitative and linguistic aptitude. As of 1980, other areas of exceptional ability may be factored into admission.

  • G.A.T.E. provides educational opportunities outside the classroom which are not readily available in the community.

What isn't G.A.T.E.?

  • G.A.T.E. is not an indicator of giftedness and talent in all areas.
  • G.A.T.E. is not an indicator of all types of intelligence.
  • G.A.T.E. is not a reward or a privilege.
